What is your role in Extreme 2008?
On this cruise, I will be organizing and cataloging all the video footage that is taken while Alvin is under water.

What will you actually be doing? I'll be going through all the video footage to find out what everyone saw on each dive and to make a record of what the conditions were like where traps were deployed or picked up, where samples were taken, etc.

That sounds like a lot of video watching, since Alvin dives last four or more hours. It's a big job, but I think its the coolest because you essentially get to see what everyone's dive was like (and eavesdrop on their conversations, too).

What's your background, and what lured you into marine science/education?
My background is in science and filmmaking and I think that this type of work is the best combination of both.  I've always been interested in showing science through video education because as a kid, I never believed what the science teachers were telling me. I wanted to see for myself, and I think video is a great way to show how cool science really is.
